The new Sonos Play: 5 is equipped with the ability to recognize the room condition

The new Sonos Play: 5

It has been almost two years since Sonos released the last product. Now the manufacturer of multi-room audio systems is proudly introducing its newest speaker, Sonos Play: 5. The Play: 5 is actually the first speaker of Sonos that's equipped with multi-room technology. But this latest version has been modified to be a smart speaker.

Before discussing the smart features, first let's see the design of Sonos Play: 5. This speaker can be placed horizontally or vertically. Of course, you can also connect two Play: 5 speakers to get a blaring stereo effect.

Sonos Play: 5 now also presents a new button for easy pairing process. Sonos completes this speaker with touch-based control so that the navigation will be more intuitive. Furthermore, the touch control can still work properly no matter the position of Play: 5 on the table.

Inside the Sonos Play: 5 there are six units of drivers, three mid-woofers and three tweeters which all of them receive power from the Class-D amplifier. The resulting sound is so bombastic, it is said that the produced sound is very hard but not distorted.

But new design and high performance alone are not enough, the Sonos Play: 5 is also equipped with a technology called Trueplay. This technology allows the speaker to adjust its equalizer with the acoustics of the room. As we know, the position of the speaker in the room affects the quality of sound produced.

The ability to recognize the position in the room allows Sonos Play: 5 to produce the best sound wherever it is placed. But more interestingly, the Trueplay technology will also be available for Sonos Play: 1 and Play: 3 through software update, and then followed by the other Sonos audio devices.

Just like its predecessors, the new Sonos Play: 5 can also be connected with other speakers in multi-room configurations. When Paired with Sonos Playbar, the Play: 5 can serve as rear speaker in a home theater setup. Whatever configuration you want, this speaker is ready to carry out its duties.

The new Sonos Play: 5 will be available in two colors: matte black and matte white, it's priced at $ 499 each unit.
