When Google introduced the new version of Cardboard on last
May, Google also presented a VR platform called Jump. The goal is of course to provide
more VR contents.
In taking that mission, Google invites GoPro to cooperate
with them. GoPro has a role to design a special device that can create
360-degree video, combining the sophistication of hardware and software to
ensure the process runs smoothly.
GoPro is now ready to market its special product. Named
GoPro Odyssey, this device packs holders for 16 pieces of GoPro Hero4 Black
cameras where all of them are synchronized and work as a unit. Although it's
designed to be a resilient device, but unfortunately GoPro Odyssey is not
intended for activity that's involving water.
As we know, each GoPro Hero4 Black can record 4K video. But
the main concern here is the 360 degree visual experience, so that all of the
videos recorded by the 16 cameras will be combined into a VR video with a
resolution of 2,7K in the aspect ratio of 4:3.
So how much is the price for a set of GoPro Odyssey? Let's
count: 16 GoPro Hero4 Black, each is priced at $ 500, so the total price of the
cameras is $ 8,000. This package also includes a series of cables and
accessories, 16 GoPro BacPac, 16 microSD card, Pelican Case and Odyssey Rig
itself. In total, you must provide money about $ 15,000.
Not only that, because the device will only be produced in a
limited quantity and is intended for professionals, consumers who are
interested are required to register in advance as a form of qualification test.
If you're curious how well the VR video that can be produced
by GoPro Odyssey, you can watch the video below by using Google Cardboard, or
through Chrome browser.
