FLYBi offers virtual reality experience through a drone

FLYBi

In designing a drone, the developer must determine the control technique approach. So far there are two general solutions, the automatic intelligent system, or put you as a pilot through real-time camera display and complete controller scheme. However, by combining several technologies, an inventor named Tim Voss has succeeded in creating a breakthrough.

Voss and his colleagues actually have a quite simple hope; they want everyone can be a professional drone's pilot. The developer is trying to cut all the difficult trinkets - takeoff procedures, landing, or floating - without compromising the exciting sensation of flying a drone. Finally the FLYBi is created; this drone combines intuitive control with head-mounted display ala virtual reality headset.

FLYBi

There are four main components in FLYBi: drone unit, control device that's attached on the hand like a watch, head-tracker headset and Helideck bag. The size of this drone is not too big, only about 36 × 46 cm and with a height of 25 cm. FLYBi brings quad-copter structure, with aerodynamic design resembles to the alien spacecraft.

Armed with head movement tracker headset, FLYBi invites you to fly like a bird. Goggle serves to send signals to the drone, makes sure the camera follows the direction of the head, pivots on the gimbal in the space of 55 degree. The result will be streamed directly to a pair of HD LCD screen on the head-tracker. The camera is supported by 12-megapixel sensor, can record video of 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 120fps.

The navigation can be done entirely by remote control on the wrist. There is a single joystick and dial settings, assisted by dedicated buttons to the functions of hold position, take off, switch photos or videos, and also landing. For alternative display, the developer presents anti-glare screen of 1.8-inch. In addition, the controller unit is waterproof, so you don't have to worry with the water splash outside.

Helideck can be used as portable hangar and also bag. When not in use, FLYBi can be rested inside the Helidect. Furthermore, the Helideck stores two spare batteries that can be replaced automatically, a pair of USB ports and an external charger, allowing the endless recharge process.

If you are interested, you can order the FLYBi through crowdfunding site IndieGogo, with prices starting from $ 545 - including drone and wrist remote control. The Helideck, head-tracker and extra battery are sold separately.
