When announcing Windows 10 in October last year, one vision
that's brought was to pin this new operating system to all existing devices.
Now, not long after the release of Windows 10 for PC and tablet versions,
Microsoft presents Windows 10 for Internet of Things (IOT) devices.
Named Windows 10 IoT Core, this light operating system is
designed to be installed into devices that are powered by a mini motherboard
such as Raspberry Pi 2 or MinnowBoard Max, no matter whether the devices have a
screen or not.
Although intended for different devices, Windows 10 IoT Core
can still run the universal application that's created for Windows 10 standard
version. The developers only need to add certain codes so that their
applications can run on Windows 10 IoT Core.
Windows 10 IoT Core itself was actually first introduced at
the BUILD 2015 event. But at that moment its capacity was still limited, such
as the lack of support for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
So what are the advantages of Windows 10 IoT Core now in
addition to the presence of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support? Many, but certainly this
operating system is intended to enhance the automation system of various IoT
devices.
One of interesting features is the support of Face
Recognition technology. So for example, a smart lock device that has been
equipped with a camera and runs with Windows 10 IoT Core will be able to open
the door automatically when it recognizes the user's face in front of it.
Windows 10 IoT Core is now available to all people through
the Dev Center. If you like to tamper with Raspberry Pi 2, you can immediately
try out the Windows 10 IoT Core now.
