Perhaps most of us have fond childhood memories along with the
kites. But times have changed, and we have grown up, we start to leave the
kites and replace them with the advanced smartphones that always come with us wherever
we go.
But don't be sad because we can still fly a modern kite. Interestingly
this modern kite is able to take pictures and record videos. This is what's
offered by Fotokite Phi, a drone that will fly like a kite while carrying a
GoPro camera.
Fotokite Phi is a unique drone because it doesn't need a
remote control to guide it. Fotokite Phi is equipped with a leash that connects
it to a rounded controller just like a yoyo. The leash can be elongated up to 8
meters.
Fotokite Phi can be flown with ease, you just need to turn
it on, bring it up, turn the body and then release. It will fly and follow you
without having to be calibrated first or locking the location via GPS.
Fotokite Phi movements can also be controlled through its
controller. When you hold down a button on its controller, Fotokite Phi will
follow the movements of your hand. Navigate your hand down, then Fotokite Phi
will fly lower. When you move your hand to the left or right, then Fotokite Phi
will also turn just like what you want.
Nevertheless, the existence of its leash raises a question,
"Is Fotokite Phi safe enough to be flown in a public place?" On one
hand, indeed you have to be careful so that the leash won't hurt anyone, but on
the other hand, people will recognize that you are the one who is responsible
for the drone, so that they can feel more secure.
While flying, Fotokite Phi can also take pictures and videos
via GoPro camera (Hero3, Hero3 + or Hero4) that can be attached to its body.
When not in use, Fotokite Phi can be folded and then store it into a tubular
case so you can bring it wherever you go.
Fotokite Phi is equipped with a rechargeable and removable
battery. When the battery is fully charged, Fotokite Phi can fly for about 15
minutes. Interestingly, it can be charged using a USB cable just like the
smartphone or tablet.
Currently Fotokite Phi is still in the stage of raising
funds in Indiegogo. If you are interested with this modern kite, you can choose
the lowest pledge worth of $ 279 - its retail price is estimated at $ 500.
