It has been almost three months since Google announced the
Android M, and it's time for this new operating system to get an official name.
Starting today, you can call it Android Marshmallow, not Macadamia Nut Cookies
as rumored before.
This news has been confirmed by Google via Android
Developers official blog. Not only receives an official name, Android
Marshmallow also carries version 6.0, not version 5.2 as predicted by a number
of parties before.
In that blog post, it's also explained that the Developer
Preview version has reached the final stage. In other words, after this
version, Android Marshmallow is ready to be released to the public along with
brand-new Nexus device. There is no information about the exact time, but
probably in the autumn of this year.
Android Marshmallow brings some new features. Three of the
most interesting features are the Android Pay, support for the fingerprint
scanner, and USB-C port.
You can also watch behind the scenes video related to the
Android Marshmallow sculpture, and also a short story about the tradition of
Android naming from version to version.
