Both Meerkat and Periscope are new live streaming
applications. They were presented in the 2015's, where IOS became the first
place to run, and now both of them have been brought to Android.
Previously, Meerkat had released beta program for users who
were interested to try its Android version, but now Periscope follows by
releasing the application for Android.
Periscope for Android devices has the same basic features
with its IOS version. Users can start a live stream in public or private,
choosing whether the comments can be submitted by people who they follow or
not, and interact with other broadcasters.
However, there are some unique aspects brought by its
Android version. The first is its design, where Periscope for Android has
adopted the style of Materials Design, with broadcast button or search is consistently
in the right corner of screen's bottom. Furthermore, the appearance of
Periscope for Android has been optimized for tablet devices.
Second, push notification settings of Periscope for Android
is more complete. Users can activate the 'First Time Broadcast notifications',
which will provide notification when someone you follow on Twitter broadcasts the
first video on Periscope, and 'Share notifications' when the person you follow
in Periscope is distributing someone else's broadcast.
While you're watching a live streaming, and there is a phone
call or SMS, Periscope for Android will feature a special banner so that you
can immediately return to the application for further viewing. And the last but
not least, a video replay will be saved automatically without requiring the
broadcaster to upload the video file first. Saving time and data!
You can download Periscope for Android directly through
Google Play. Make sure your device is running Android 4.4 KitKat or newer.
