Last week, we've seen how a bike can be combined with a
washing machine. In the article, we also mention about Drumi, a tiny washing
machine that's powered by the foot movements. And this time we will discuss
about Drumi for more detail.
The idea behind the development of Drumi is very simple, it
provides a solution so you don't have to wait a few days until the clothes are
mounting before finally being put into the washing machine. With Drumi, you can
wash the clothes every 2-3 days without worry about the electricity bill.
Basically, Drumi doesn't require electricity to operate, your
foot movements that become the power source of this machine, similar to what's
offered by Bike Washing Machine concept.
Maybe you think that this tool is a rice cooker. Perhaps
they have similar shape, but the Drumi has transparent lid so you can monitor
the washing process. Inside this machine there is a ball-shaped drum with a
pair of hinges on both sides. This drum can accommodate about 2.25 kg, or equivalent
with 6-7 pieces of clothes - it could be more if you use it to wash underwear.
Using Drumi is so easy; you just need to open the
transparent lid, and also the drum cover. Enter your clothes inside the drum,
close it, and then pour a liquid or powder detergent, plus deodorizer over the
drum cover. Pour about 5 liters of water, place back the transparent lid, and
then start to step the pedal.
As you are pedaling, the ball in Drumi will be spinning
rapidly. Two minutes later, press the button on the back side of Drumi to
remove the water in it, and then repeat the steps above without adding
detergent to rinse the clothes. The rinsing process will take about 2 minutes.
In total, you only need 5 minutes and 10 liters of water to wash 6-7 clothes
without paying a penny for the electricity cost.
Of course Drumi can't be used as a substitute for the
electric washing machine. The developer, Yirego, explained that Drumi is
intended for the people who stay in a small apartment, parents who have to wash
baby clothes, or people who like to camping or traveling.
Unlike the Bike Washing Machine which is still in a concept,
Drumi will be marketed in the summer of this year, with a retail price of
around $ 169.
