One of negative impacts from the technological development
to human body is the physical activity decline. When all the conveniences are
available, we are reluctant to move, for example, we prefer to shop online
rather than walk to the nearest supermarket. To encourage modern people to
exercise, some students of Dalian Nationalities University in China create a
very unique discovery.
The developer combines two unrelated things: a bicycle and
washing machine. The result is the Bike Washing Machine (BWM). Despite having a
pair of paddles, handlebar, a seat and 'spin' component, but basically it is
not a transportation mode, this machine will help you to wash your clothes in a
different way: Washing clothes while exercising.
The Bike Washing Machine has a simple design; there is a
washing machine container on the front wheel. Place your clothes inside the
container, sitting on the seat, and start pedaling the bike. When you are
riding the bike, the drum section will be rotating, stirring the dirty clothes
like the conventional electricity washing machine.
The developer team has put a generator inside this machine;
it's useful to create energy that can be stored for use at a later time.
Unfortunately there is no explanation about the automatic filling of water and
detergent. If it carries manual way (without updates in basic design), it means
that the user must enter the water and detergent first, and do it repeatedly to
rinse clothes.
Dalian Nationalities University students explained that
their work could be a solution for consumers who are looking for a physical
exercise tool and a washing machine but there is not enough space in the house.
Alternatively, the Bike Washing Machine will save your monthly electricity
costs, or it can be utilized in remote areas where there is no adequate
electricity supply.
Bike Washing Machine is not a new concept offered by
inventors. Other designers had ever revealed the same concept before, and
another form of this idea is Drumi, a tiny washing machine that's powered by
foot movement. Although these devices are unique, but they haven't been able to
replace the conventional washing machine, and therefore the BWM won’t be
launched in near future. Bike WashingMachine is still a concept, there's no certain information whether this bike
will be produced as a commercial product or not.
