Neobase not only can save your files, this device could be your personal social networking

Neobase, personal social networking

Have you ever thought that all the contents you have stored in the cloud are at risk of stolen by someone else? No matter how save a server, there must be a gap that could be penetrated. One solution to keeping the privacy is by utilizing local network, but this way obviously limits your ability to share with family or colleagues who live far away from you.

This is the mission that wants to be offered by Neobase, a device that you can use as a place to store contents, and then share them directly to the closest people through an encrypted connection.

To make it easier to understand, consider the Neobase as a NAS (network-attached storage), aka the hard disk that's connected to the network. Inside this device, there has been stored encrypted hard disk with a capacity of 1 TB, and you still can add an external hard disk through its USB port.

Neobase connects to the network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. It is equipped with a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 with a speed of 1 GHz, 2 GB RAM and runs a special operating system based on Linux.

So what is special about Neobase? Well, it wants to be a personal social networking platform for you, not just a place to store files that relies on the cloud as a mean of sharing.

Each Neobase can connect up to five users - if more than that, you need to connect another Neobase. Thus, you can share with those who are closest in your life.

Similar to the concept of social networks in general, family and colleagues that you have chosen earlier can give like or comment on your contents. To access this private social network, they can use Neobase applications on PC / Mac or mobile devices - initially only iOS, Android will follow.

With Neobase, it's only you who take control on what is in it. Each connection that leads to Neobase will go through specific SSH tunnel that's more secure than the SSL feature on browser.

Neobase is currently being marketed through crowdfunding site Kickstarter, with the lowest pledge worth $ 199. But for now Neobase only accepts orders from the US market.

Even so, the developer has planned to bring Neobase to the international market. Due to the high level of encryption and security offered by Neobase, they must first obtain permission from the certain countries before they can market their products.
