Ikea Concept Kitchen 2025 is a project that involves four
parties at once: the Ikea, Ideo design firm of London, and a number of selected
students from Lund University in Sweden, and Eindhoven University in
Netherlands. For about one and a half years, they collaborated to think about
how we will store, process and eat foods in 10 years from now.
To formulate appropriate solution, first they have to think
about the various scenarios that could occur in 2025. Of the many assumptions
collected, they assume that in 2025 the world population will be concentrated
in urban areas. At that point, the physical size of our living space will
shrink, and the kitchen becomes an important part of a home.
Food prices are predicted to soar, and we will be required
to conserve water and other energy sources in a better way. At the same time,
the way we shop will change; rather than doing monthly shopping at the
supermarket, we will shop digitally and take advantage of express delivery
services powered by drones.
One thing is certain, the technology will take on a bigger
role in people's lives in 2025. The computer will spread everywhere; even the
simplest furniture will include a number of sensors, CPU unit and connectivity
chip to interact with users.
Four prototypes of the future kitchen are created in order
to overcome the problems that could arise from the scenarios above. All four
are: Table for Living, Modern Pantry, Mindful Water System and Thoughtful
Disposal System.
Table for Living is the life of Ikea Concept Kitchen 2025.
This wood table is the place where we cook the foods and also eat the dishes we
have made. This is crucial due to the limited space we have in the house.
Hanging on the ceiling above the table is a combination of
camera and projector. The camera will recognize a variety of foods that you put
on the table, then the recipe and cooking instructions will be projected in the
vicinity.
In the place where the meat supply is limited, Table for
Living will help you to be more creative in presenting dishes with existing
ingredients. You can also filter the recommendation recipes based on the
availability of time you have. When you're ready to cook, the inductive coil
behind the table will heat the inside of pot and pan. Furthermore, this table
also serves as a wireless charger for your mobile devices.
The way we store the foods will also change. Because the
express delivery services have reached all areas, the presence of refrigerator
is considered no longer relevant. Overcoming the change of storage concept,
Modern Pantry offers an unique solution.
This furniture is actually comprised of a number of wooden
shelves to put the groceries. The food ingredients are stored in a special
container that's equipped with RFID chip to indicate the optimal storage temperature.
By reading the information stored on the RFID chip, the
inductive plates along the rack then will refrigerate each container that's
containing these foods. When the container is removed and placed on the table,
the induction system will change from cooling into heating.
To help conserve water more efficiently, this concept
kitchen presents Mindful Water System. Not many advanced technologies are
equipped with this system, but the solution offered seems quite effective.
Simply put, there are two water discharge pipes at each sink
- one for 'gray' water and another for the 'black' water. You just need to tilt
the sink to the left to flow the 'gray' water that can be used again to wash or
watering plants. Instead, tilt to the right to dispose the 'black' water that
has been contaminated with chemicals, which will be forwarded to a sewer system
like in general.
At the same time, they also introduce Thoughtful Disposal
System. The system is designed so that we are more concerned about the
environment preservation. Where you have to sort the trash that can be recycled
and which are not.
The non-organic waste such as plastic bottles will be
crushed and analyzed the potential contamination, before being stored in vacuum
tubes made from bio-polymer. In the other side, the organic waste will be
turned into a piece of odorless dry compost. These pieces of compost can then
be used by local waste management agency. In order to motivate us, we will be
given a credit or a fine depending on how often we discard the useless waste.
As the name implies, Ikea Concept Kitchen 2025 is still in
the form of a concept. But at least we can get an overview of the changes in
our lifestyle in the next 10 years, and of course, how technology can play a big
role in providing effective solutions for our lives.
