In the Google I/O 2015 event, in addition to revealing the
existence of Android M, Google also introduced a new service called Google Photos. Then the question is: what will happen to Google+ Photos which had
attracted the users' attentions in 2013?
Through its own social network, Google explained that per
August 1, 2015, Google+ Photos will be replaced by new Google Photos that has
made its debut on last May. You don't need to be confused by the two similar
names, because there is no big impact from this exchange.
You can still upload photos and videos to Google+ as usual,
besides that you can still leave a comment or +1 just like before. All photos,
videos, albums and comments won't be lost and still be accessible through the
Photos tab in Google+.
The only change is given at 'behind the scenes'; the
features such as backup, editing, creation, private album management and
sharing will be taken over by Google Photos. This step is taken so that users
won't be confused by the two similar services.
There is nothing you need to do to photos and videos that
you have stored on Google+; everything will be transferred automatically to
Google Photos (photos.google.com). However if you are interested in saving all
that locally, you can use Google Takeout feature to download all the photos and
videos in your account.
