So far Google Maps indeed has allowed its users to monitor
the places they have visited through the Location History feature. But recently
Google Maps presents a more effective solution in showing the places that have
been passed every day by the users.
The solution is called Your Timeline that can be regarded as
a refinement of the Location History feature. Therefore, this feature can only
be used if you enable the Location History feature.
Your Timeline allows you to see the locations you have
visited based on time and date. You will get visualization of all the routes
you have gone through from day to day. Thus, you can recall the location where
you met up with your lover for the first time.
In order to make the visualization looks more attractive,
Your Timeline will also display the photos stored in your Google Photos
account. The photos will be displayed based on the day you take them, so that
you can remember the precious moments that happened on that day.
To maintain privacy, Your Timeline can only be accessed by
you as the owner of the account. You can set any locations you want to keep,
and also give a unique name on a location you visit frequently. Or if you feel
anxious, you can delete all the stored-history anytime you want.
Your Timeline feature is already available on Google Maps of
Android and desktop (via the web) versions. There is no information whether its
IOS version will also have similar feature.
