Battery life still becomes a problem for most smartwatches
today, the reason is simple; we are accustomed of wearing traditional watches
whose batteries can last for years, not in a matter of days as presented by
almost all smartwatches that exist in the market today.
Therefore, a US-based startup named Number One Inc. wants to
offer something different. They introduced Element1 smartwatch in Indiegogo
which emphasizes on the battery life advantage.
Unlike the majority smartwatches, Element1 battery doesn't
need to be charged. As long as you wear it, the battery will continue to be
filled. Yup, Element1 is using kinetic battery that's powered by the user's
hand movements.
This kinetic battery technology is not a new thing. There
are quite a lot of traditional watches which have been packed with this kind of
battery. In essence, the energy will be renew continuously as long as you wear
it and move naturally.
But battery life alone is not enough to attract the buyers' attentions;
Element1 also brings a unique approach to its design. Its appearance may not be
the prettiest, but the developer claims that this smartwatch is designed with
the environmental care concept.
Element1 is available in four colors, each of them is
inspired by the color of fruits: green apple, blackcurrant, lychee and
blueberry lime. Interestingly, the packaging of Element1 is presented in cereal
bowl that can be used after you unbox the smartwatch - it even comes with a
wooden spoon.
The Element1 comes with 1.33 inch
round screen resolution of 240 x 240 pixels. This smartwatch is equipped with 2
GB of storage to store a number of songs, and relies on Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi
connectivity.
There is no information about the
operating systems used by this smartwatch, but most likely it will bring a
modified version of Android. One thing that sounds ambitious is the compatibility
claim of this smartwatch, it is not only compatible with the Android and iOS,
but also with Windows Phone.
The smartwatch's common functions
can be provided by Element1, such as forwarding the notification, displays
weather information and gives navigation instructions. About the tracking
system, Element1 can calculate the calories burned and the distance you have
reached while jogging. It's also claimed to be able to monitor the user's heart
rate.
Element1 has just started its
campaign in Indiegogo. The lowest pledge offered at this time is $ 99. However
it's explained that the sales package also includes a charging cable. Perhaps
this cable is included to make the battery remains full despite it is not used
in quite some time.
