Not only as a forum for making seminars, gathering with
professional comics, and movie preview event, the San Diego Comic-Con also
becomes a place for fans to express themselves. Some show their love through
costume play, but not a few who realize their imaginations more seriously, one
of them is The Wand Company.
Founded by duo British inventors, Chris Barnardo and Richard
Blakesley, The Wand Company is a company that creates replicas of movies'
accessories and trinkets. Previously they've created Harry Potter's magic wand
and Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver. In the SDCC 2015, The Wand Company is showing
off Communicator device from Star Trek series.
The design of Communicator device refers to the accessory in
the original movie. It has classic style ala retrofuturism. Its box-shaped form
is equipped with a set of physical buttons, and there is a hollowed-flip cover
to protect it. Star Trek Communicator is
constructed from a combination of aluminum and textured plastic. Each
indentation and component is formulated in order to resemble the real device
form.
But what exactly is the Communicator replica? It is a
Bluetooth speaker to be paired wirelessly to the handset. For navigation, The
Wand Company has provided voice control feature - simply touch a button at the
bottom of device.
From the description of The Verge which has tried the
prototype variant, the call sounds clear and loud. When the cover is opened,
the Communicator will produce a distinctive sound like in the '60s Star Trek
movie. The main strength of this device lies in its aesthetic aspect, it's
arranged as closely as possible with the real device, start from the draft up
to the weight, combined with an additional magnet stand and wireless charging
capability.
Communicator is a worthy collectible item to enhance your
Star Trek memorabilia. If you want to use it, and not only make it as a
display, you can put Communicator on the desk and then connect it to smartphone
to enjoy your favorite songs.
The pre-order of Communicator has been opened. You can order
it on the Think Geek or Star Trek Shop websites. Communicator is offered around
US $ 150, quite affordable especially for a big fan of Star Trek series, but it
will be available in January next year.
