We have seen various attempts to
make the mobile device as a hardcore gaming device, for example, to cope with
the inconvenience of a touch screen, now there are a lot of choices of
Bluetooth controllers. But can we tamper with the device's software, for
example for maximizing one aspect of the game, similar to the graphic settings
menu on PC?
Samsung Electronics has an
interesting answer. We know that Samsung is getting serious in developing the
mobile gaming. In June, Samsung had introduced the Game Recorder+ with capabilities
similar to XSplit Gamecaster. And this time Samsung unveils Game Tuner, an app
that gives users the flexibility of graphics settings in the game, and presents
ways to save battery life.
Basically, Game Tuner will inform
the users about the most power drain games, and then it allows users to reduce
the size of the resolution and frame rate of the games. By doing so, the
battery can last longer, even able to reduce the temperature level. Frame rate
can be changed from 15fps to 60fps, depending on the needs of the system.
This application can be used
easily, Samsung has written codes of supported devices. Game Tuner is
compatible to all kinds of Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, but only some
types of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. After the app is downloaded, you are welcome to
choose a preset to be applied to the entire title of the games, or you can
customize the resolution and frame rate respectively.
In order to make the Game Tuner
works properly, Samsung recommends that GameService is always enabled. Although
the model name has been written, there's still possibility the application may
not run yet. The solution is to update the software, and if it still can't be
accessed, you need to be patient waiting for the next update.
Game Tuner menu is very easy to
navigate. It detects the games that are installed on the device, presenting the
slider frame rate and resolution, as well as the standard visual options -
high, medium, low, extreme low. After configuration, you can simply tap the
launch button to play instantly. The setting adjustment works two ways: to
lower or raise the quality. The FPS setting is useful if you are confronted
with stuttering problem.
Game Tuner can be downloaded for free in the Google Play Store. Just make sure your handset runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer.
