Google acquires Digitifera to improve the Street View

Google acquires Digitifera

Again Google acquires a startup named Digisfera from Portugal that's working on panoramic photography. Although Google doesn’t explain the purpose of this acquisition, but it's predicted that this step is taken by Google to improve its Street View application.

It's not mentioned how much money Google should spend to realize this acquisition. But the Digisfera through its website notes that their whole team will join with the Street View team. "We’re excited to share that Digisfera is joining Google. We started Digisfera almost five years ago and have had the opportunity to work in many interesting projects involving 360º photography over the years. We’re excited to join the Street View team at Google to continue building great experiences using 360° photography." said Digisfera.

Digisfera has started to operate since January 2011 and it focuses its service on the panoramic photography projects. A major project that had ever been undertaken was a super large panorama in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the 2014 World Cup event. In addition, this startup was also trusted to do the same project for the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States.

As a result of this acquisition, Digitifera will stop the PanoTag, effective as of October 31, 2015. Now this startup is no longer accepting a new customer.

Digitifera also plans to launch the Marzipan Viewer Tool in the near future. This tool will be released as an open source platform which is expected to be useful for the panoramic photography lovers.

Reportedly the newest update of Street View has been offering panoramic experience that's designed by Digisfera.
