When Motorola released the Moto 360 for first time, many
people considered it as one of the first smartwatches that looked like a conventional
watch. Now a year later, Motorola presents the Moto 360 second generation.
Motorola still retains the classic design, but this company seems to have
created smartwatches collection for different consumers.
So, now there are three versions of Moto 360 second
generation: Moto 360 for Men, Moto 360 for Women, and Moto 360 Sport. All three
can be customized at will through the Moto Maker. In total there are more than
300 combinations that can be obtained, which includes color, bezel, strap/band,
material and size.
Moto 360 second generation comes in two sizes: diameter of
46 mm and 42 mm - the Moto 360 for Women version is using diameter of 42 mm,
but with a smaller strap. As information, previously Moto 360 had been
criticized because its size was too large.
In addition to improve the design, Moto 360's performance is
also enhanced. Moto 360 second generation is now powered by Qualcomm's
Snapdragon 400 chipset, with 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB
internal storage. The screen resolution is also slightly increased to be 360 x
330 pixels (360 x 325 for the 42 mm version). Wi-Fi chip is also given, which
means that this smartwatch can still be used even if not connected to a
smartphone via Bluetooth.
Of course, Moto 360 second generation has been running the
latest version of Android Wear operating system. Thus, it's not only able to
display the interactive watch face, but it's also compatible with the iPhone.
The battery endurance is slightly better than its predecessor, which now can
last up to 2 days.
The only thing that hasn't changed from the Moto 360 second generation is a small black portion beneath the rounded screen. Motorola
explains that this component is needed to maximize the ratio of body and
screen. However, perhaps the valid reason is because this part is the home of
ambient light sensor which serves to adjust the screen brightness automatically
- a feature that's quite rare for smartwatch products.
Then there is also Moto 360 Sport. As the name implies, it
is intended for users who like exercising. The presence of GPS enables the
smartwatch to monitor the speed and distance, so it doesn't only monitor the
heart rate. Motorola even claims that Moto 360 Sport can be loaded with music,
so you can still exercise while enjoying your favorite songs without having to
carry a smartphone.
The screen of Moto 360 second generation uses special
technology which is believed can display the information in brighter and
clearer display, even under the sun light. Moto 360 second generation is also
packed in unibody frame (fused with strap) made of silicone with UV coating.
Motorola is now accepting pre-orders for the Moto 360 second generation, which is expected to be available in late September. The prices will
be offered starts from $ 300 to $ 430, depending on the configurations that are
chosen by the consumers. For Moto 360 Sport, so far there is still no
information about the price and availability.
