As a communication tool, one advantages of smartphone is the
easiness to contact the closest people when we are in an emergency situation.
Nevertheless, there's time when the situation doesn't allow us to use the
smartphone because of some dangerous reasons.
A startup called Wearsafe wants to offer a solution to such
problem. Through the Kickstarter campaign, they introduce a wearable tag with a
fairly ambitious mission: to save millions of lives around the world.
Wearsafe Tag is a small Bluetooth device that can be
connected to a smartphone in order to give a warning to relatives or your
colleagues in emergency times, with a range of around 60 meters. Its small
dimension allows it to be worn as a necklace or clipped to a shirt, pants or
backpacks. Bluetooth LE connectivity allows the coin battery to last up to six
months.
It works in a simple way, when you are in danger, for
example, you only need to press a button on the Wearsafe Tag. Furthermore, it
will connect to Wearsafe application on smartphone to share information in
real-time to your relatives and colleagues. Your smartphone will vibrate to
indicate that a warning has been sent to the people you trust the most.
The information given includes your current position, the
speed you are moving, and the surrounding sound that’s captured by your
smartphone's microphone. Furthermore, Wearsafe will also create a chat group
automatically so that your relatives and colleagues can communicate easily in
order to help you as soon as possible.
Wearsafe developer team apparently also brings integration
with other wearable devices such as smartwatch, one of which is the Pebble
Time. Thus, the user can also send a warning and also important information to
relatives and colleagues who use Pebble Time.
The service that's offered by Wearsafe Tag adopts a
subscription system. To be able to take advantage of the real-time information
sharing, users will be charged $ 5 per month. So far the Wearsafe Tag is only
compatible with the iPhone, but its Android version will soon follow. Those who
are interested, Wearsafe Tag can be ordered through Kickstarter for $ 40.
