Typhoon Q500 4K not only records 4K, but can also serve as an action camera

Typhoon Q500 4K

When the DJI Phantom 3 Professional was introduced at last April, the capability of 4K video recording at 30 fps became the mainstay feature of this drone. This is indeed an encouraging achievement, considering that most of drones could run the 4K only if paired with GoPro Hero4 Black camera.

However now DJI is not alone because other drone manufacturer from China, Yuneec, has just introduced a new product called Typhoon Q500 4K. The main advantage of this drone can already be seen from its name, i.e. video recording in 3840x2160 resolution at speed of 30 fps.

But resolution alone is not enough. Therefore, Yuneec has also completed the Typhoon Q500 4K with 3-axis gimbal to absorb shocks as effective as possible during the video recording. As a bonus, the 115 degree wide-angle lens is claimed to be able to present images without distortion.

In addition to 4K, the Typhoon Q500 4K also offers 1080p 120 fps video recording option to meet the needs of slow motion feature. When video recording is in progress, it is also able to snap photos of 12 megapixels, in both JPEG and RAW formats.

Interestingly, Typhoon Q500 4K's camera and gimbal can be removed and attached to a kind of joystick called Steady Grip. At this point, the camera will function like an action camera by utilizing the user's smartphone as a viewfinder and control center.

About the operation system, Typhoon Q500 4K relies on a unique controller unit. Rather than tethers a smartphone or tablet to the controller, user can immediately see what is being recorded via 5.5 inch touch screen in the controller. Through the same screen, user can also set the drone's camera, such as changing the level of ISO or shutter speed.

Following current trends, the Typhoon Q500 4K is also equipped with a semi-autopilot function. User can activate the Follow Me mode that will make the drone follow wherever the user moves, or Watch Me mode which will make the drone continue to focus the camera on the controller holder. In addition, geofencing feature is also presented in order to maximize security.

Typhoon Q500 4K is powered by a 5.400mAh lithium-polymer battery, with an estimated flying time about 25 minutes. The battery unit is removable so you can put another battery unit to replace the battery that has run out.

Typhoon Q500 4K is offered at a price of $ 1,299. In the sales package, you will get one unit of drone, controller, Steady Grip, two batteries, and a carrying case made of aluminum.
