The communication between devices is the main principle of
the Internet of Things. The form of communication itself doesn't have to be
complex, but it should provide additional benefits for users.
General Electric, or commonly known as GE recently shows off
how a simple communication between devices can facilitate the daily routine.
They introduce a line of stove and hanging microwave (over-the-range) that are
able to 'communicate' with each other.
This feature is called Chef Connect. The GE Chef Connect
utilizes Bluetooth chip that's embedded in each device in order to perform
synchronization on a number of functions.
The first function is to turn on the light automatically.
When the stove is turned on, the microwave light which is right on top of it
will turn on automatically, shines the light into the furnace that you use. So
trivial indeed, but this means you don't need to press the lamp lever on the
microwave with your finger.
The second function is users can also activate the option
where the ventilation fan will turn on automatically when the stove is used.
All of this can indeed be done manually, but of course users will not refuse
the convenience offered by this kind of automation feature.
The third function is the timepiece on the stove and
microwave will be synchronized automatically. This kind of functionality is
crucial when you need to use two devices simultaneously and activate the timer
respectively; this feature is useful to avoid burnt food.
GE Chef Connect will comes along with a new over-the-range
microwave that according to the plan will be marketed in September, with a
price range of $ 449 - $ 499. The same feature will also explore the new types
of GE Profile stoves line, which is scheduled for release in August 2015, at a
price of $ 1,200 for the gas version and $ 1,100 for the electric version.
