If you grew up in the 1980s, maybe you have known a PC brand
named Commodore. The Commodore was a popular PC maker at that time, and even
played an important role in the PC revolution.
Once stated bankrupt in 1994, now Commodore surprisingly
comes back in the form of smartphone. The new breakthrough of Commodore is
realized in a mobile device called the Commodore PET. One of the considerations
of the Commodore team is perhaps the fact that the mobile industry at this time
has a very large market share, thus they can find market niches that can be
dominated with all of potentials they have.
When seeing the specification of Commodore PET that was
launched by Wired, possibility this Android phone will be presented for the
middle class market. The Commodore PET is equipped with 5.5-inch Full HD IPS
screen, coated with Gorilla Glass 3 layer, supported by MediaTek 1.7 GHz
processor, 13MP primary camera with aperture of f/2.0, 8MP front camera and
3.000mAh battery.
The camera components are quite special, where the main camera
is capable of capturing the images up to 4096 x 2305 pixels. While the front
camera has a catch angle of 80 degree to capture selfie images with the best
results.
To compete in the middle class market, the Commodore PET
comes with dual SIM support and super fast internet network, 4G LTE.
The nostalgic aspect will also be presented by Commodore by
preparing two emulators that will be mounted in this mobile device, and the
support of Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system which has been modified.
The two emulators that will be used are the VICE C64 and
Uae4All2-SDL Amiga which have been modified so that the users can play the
1980s classic games but with a more advanced experience.
Commodore PET will be available in two versions, the
standard version offers 2GB RAM with 16GB memory, and will be offered for $
300. Then the superior variant is equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB memory, and
priced at $ 365. Both are expected to be released in Europe this week.
