Epson Moverio BT-300

Do you still remember with the smart glasses named Epson Moverio BT-200? At MWC 2016, Epson launches the Moverio BT-300, which is the newest generation of Epson's smart glasses.

Compared to its predecessors, BT-300 has a more attractive and more concise design. The dimension is thinner and the weight is 20 percent lighter. The design improvements also meant that BT-300 can be worn over regular eyeglasses and doesn't make the user's nose feels hurt.

In addition to the design, Epson also improve the components of these smart glasses. The screen now has HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and wear Si-OLED panel (Silicon OLED). According to Epson, the display panel is capable of generating a more concentrated black color, which would lead to the projection of a wider color spectrum and the content can appear more realistic.

Just like its two predecessors, Epson Moverio BT-300 is still accompanied by a control unit which is connected by a cable. This unit is responsible for all content processing, including running the Android 5.1 operating system. Inside this unit, there is 1.44 GHz quad-core Intel Atom X5 processor (no longer made by Texas Intruments).

Another change is the 5 megapixel camera that replaces the VGA camera of its predecessors. To take a picture, the user only needs to do some gesture in front of his eyes because this device is equipped with motion recognition sensor which is able to change the view becomes like a digital canvas.

There are several usage scenarios of Moverio BT-300, for example, from the consumer side, this device can be used by the user for exercising to the gym by utilizing the augmented reality technology. For the drone owner, the device will display whatever is being recorded by the drone directly to the user's view, but at the same time the user is still aware of his position and what happens around him.

Nevertheless, Epson is targeting this product for the enterprise customer to do specific tasks. Simply put, this device is not intended to be used continuously like regular glasses. It also explains why the BT-300 is still accompanied by a control unit which is connected by a cable.

There is no certainty about the price, but is expected around $ 700 - $ 800 - not much different than its two predecessors. According to the plan, these smart glasses will be sold at the fourth quarter of this year.
