In the last few years, there are many smartphones that have
been equipped with dual-SIM feature. For practical reason, the dual-SIM
smartphone indeed is ideal for the users who have two numbers that are intended
for different purposes.
However, not all smartphones, especially the high-end
variant, are equipped with two SIM card slots. Apple iPhone for example; since
the first generation, the Apple iPhone never brought dual-SIM support. As a
result, iPhone users had to buy another phone if they want to use two numbers
simultaneously.
If you're an iPhone user who's also facing a similar
problem, you can try out the newest product of a startup from Hong Kong.
Through Kickstarter, they introduce the Piece SIM Adapter.
Piece SIM Adapter is a small device that can transform your
iPhone into a 'dual-SIM smartphone'. Its form resembles to a credit card, with
a thickness of 4 mm, so it can be inserted inside the wallet. It can
accommodate one Micro-SIM card, and has a rechargeable battery which is quite
durable (150 hours of standby time, 4 hours of talk time).
After plugging the Micro-SIM card into Piece SIM Adapter,
you only need to connect it to the iPhone via Bluetooth LE, and download the
companion application. Furthermore, you can directly call or send an SMS using
the second number.
Due to utilize Bluetooth, Piece SIM Adapter can also be used
together with other iOS devices, like the iPod Touch or iPad. In other words,
iPod Touch or iPad can also function as a smartphone.
Interestingly, Piece also serves as a tracker for your iPhone.
If accidentally your iPhone is left on table and you walk more than 10 meters
from it, either Piece in your wallet and the iPhone itself will ring to give a
warning. Conversely, you can also search for your wallet by ringing the Piece
through companion application in iPhone.
Piece SIM Adapter can be ordered for $ 65 through Kickstarter.
For your information, if you plan to use this device together with the iPod
Touch or iPad, keep in mind that it can only be used to call or send SMS, not
for accessing the internet.
