Have you ever felt annoyed with the interface of photo
editing software? Adobe Lightroom for example, those who have ever used this
software, you must know that the software is filled with virtual buttons, knobs
and sliders that resemble to physical devices.
Nevertheless, it feels very different from pressing,
twisting and shifting physical devices. The accuracy may not be a problem, but
it would be nice if we could replace all the virtual buttons with physical
rotary knobs and sliders.
That's what will be offered by Palette Gear. This device is
a unique controller that had been talked about two years ago thanks to their
campaign in Kickstarter. And in 2015, Palette Gear is ready to be booked,
produced and shipped.
The idea that's brought by Palette Gear is simple: instead
of using the virtual interface, you can make adjustments in Adobe Lightroom
simply by sliding the sliders, turning the knobs or pressing the buttons. What’s
the benefit of this device? The editing process can run faster and the
adjustments will be more precise.
Palette Gear consists of four different modules: Core,
Button, Dial and Slider. Core is the brain of everything. It connects to a PC
or Mac via USB, and then the small OLED screen will display the icon of the
software that's being used, in this case is Adobe Lightroom.
Furthermore, there is Button, with ala arcade machine button
which is very tactile. Dial is a knob that can be rotated and pressed to choose
one of two modes: the precision or loss. Lastly there is Slider, just like the
name implies, it can be slid to change certain parameters.
All these modules collaborate harmoniously with the help of
magnets. Yup, each side of the Palette Gear modules has been equipped with
magnet-based special connector. You just need to plug in or remove it. Thus,
you can change the layout of Buttons, Dials and Sliders with ease.
Once satisfied with your own version of Palette Gear layout,
it's time to set any functions that can be controlled by Palette Gear modules.
Each of Palette Gear modules is equipped with LED light whose color can be
changed so you will be able to identify the functions one by one easily.
Palette Gear companion software will help you to do it with a visual guide
that's easy to understand.
Well, because it relies on software and can be customized
according to your wishes and anytime - which can then be saved into a number of
profiles - Palette Gear is not only interesting for photographers, in addition
to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, it is also compatible with Adobe Illustrator
and InDesign which are often used by graphic designers. Not forgetting Adobe
Premiere and After Effects for video editors. Even if there are developers who
are interested to explore it deeper, Palette Gear can also be used to play
games.
Palette Gear is now ready to be ordered through
palettegear.com. There are three bundles that can be selected: Starter for $
199, Expert for $299, and Professional for $ 499 which consists of 15 modules.
The developer also offers a limited edition for $ 899 where the entire modules
are packaged in an attractive wood frame. The delivery is expected to begin in
November 2015.
