Some of you perhaps still remember with the Jolla, a company
that's founded by former Nokia employee who once designed the MeeGo platform,
now they create a new mobile operating system called Sailfish OS. Well recently
Jolla has been working with a number of companies to spread the Sailfish OS
platform which has now been stepped on version 2.0.
Intex is an Indian electronics company which becomes one of the
partner companies that adopt Sailfish OS platform in their device, previously
Intex had been successfully marketed Firefox OS smartphone in India. And
recently in the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2015 event, Intex introduced a
smartphone called Intex Aqua Fish that's running with Sailfish 2.0 OS platform.
Intex Aqua Fish brings 4.7 inch HD screen with a resolution
of 720p. This smartphone is orchestrated by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400
processor, which is accompanied by 1GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of
7GB. Users can also add the memory capacity up to 32GB via microSD slot
provided.
Similar to some smartphones in the market today, Intex Aqua
Fish smartphone also comes with an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 2
megapixel camera on the front. For the connectivity, this smartphone has
supported the 4G LTE connection, WiFi and Bluetooth. Besides that, the GPS/AGPS
feature has been embedded as an additional capability to be used as a
navigation device by its users. For daily operation, this smartphone is powered
by a battery with a capacity of 2,300mAh.
With the above specification, it looks like that the Intex Aqua Fish smartphone is presented for the low-end segment, and reportedly this
smartphone will be marketed at a price of Rs 15,000, or equivalent to US $ 236
for each unit. According to the plan, Intex Aqua Fish will be launched in the
Indian market on next September.
Sailfish OS itself is a mobile platfrom that's developed
based on MeeGo and supports the Android application. Sailfish 2.0 OS also has
brought interface concept that's similar to several other interface concepts
such as Swipe UI which is used by MeeGo, and also gestures concept which is
found on Blackberry 10. With grid card display on the main screen, this
platform also has a similarity with live tile display of Windows Phone or
widget concept of Android.
