It turns out that Mercedes-Benz not only can give luxury
atmosphere to the car interior, their design division, Mercedes-Benz Style,
recently showcases the concept of top-class cabin for private aircraft. This
project is a collaboration of Mercedes-Benz Style with Lufthansa Technik. As
information, Lufthansa is a renowned German airline and also the largest
airline in Europe.
These duo German companies totally transform the spatial
concept that's commonly adopted by conventional aircraft cabin. There are no
more vertical dividers; everything has been reformed into a large and luxury
modern lounge.
Natural wood material coats most of surfaces in the cabin.
The U-shaped sofas are circling a large table where the snacks are served. On
the other side, you can see a pair of chairs facing each other beside the
window for passengers who want to have more personal conversation.
To enhance the luxury aspect of the VIP aircraft's cabin,
the premium leather material is certainly trusted to coat the chairs and sofas.
At the very end of the room, you can see a pair of chambers for passengers who
want to take a rest.
In addition to the luxury interior design, this VIP cabin
apparently also carries a number of sophisticated digital technologies. Each
window of the plane has been equipped with Magic Sky technology, making it
possible to change from transparent to black, or vice versa. Magic Sky is one
of the mainstay features of the Mercedes-Benz SL and SLK series.
However, its function is slightly different from that's
applied in the car. In the Mercedes-Benz car, the Magic Sky has a function to
create vast space nuance as it is commonly felt in the open-topped car. When
the glass turns dark, the Magic Sky is claimed to be able to block sunlight,
lowering the cabin temperature up to 10º C.
In the aircraft's cabin, Magic Sky offers two modes with
different application. In the standard mode, the glass will appear transparent
so that the passengers are free to observe the clouds that gather outside. But
when the glass turns dark, this glass will be transformed into a digital screen
with touch-based control.
Various visual contents can be displayed by this dark
screen, ranging from video, weather forecasts, flight information, and even an
agenda which must be done by the passengers. In short, the Magic Sky technology
in the aircraft cabin has a function as infotainment system.
Although the VIP cabin is still a concept, but Mercedes-Benz Style and Lufthansa Technik have announced that they will be exhibiting this
concept in the EBACE 2015 (European Business Aviation Convention &
Exhibition), which is held on May 19 to 21 in the Geneva, Switzerland.
The two companies will gather inputs from prospective
customers who are interested with this concept in the next few months, and it's
expected that the orders can be met in the next year.
